Every November 20, we celebrate Universal Children's Rights Day, a date that invites us to reflect on the guarantees and opportunities we must offer our children, without exception. This day commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, an international treaty that establishes the fundamental rights that all children should enjoy, regardless of their origin, gender or situation.
At Fundación Soñar Despierto, we believe that this is a key moment to remember and act in favor of the most vulnerable minors, those who often go unnoticed: the children living in foster care.
Children's rights, a universal commitment
The Convention on the Rights of the Child lists a series of essential rights that must be guaranteed for their full and happy development:
- Right to life, survival and development.
- Right to a name and identity.
- Right to education.
- Right to health and well-being.
- Right to protection from abuse, exploitation and neglect.
- Right to play and participate in cultural and recreational activities.
- Right to freedom of expression and to be heard.
- Right to live in a safe family environment.
Although these rights are universal, in the case of children under guardianship, their situation means that some of their rights are violated.
"Glasses to See the Invisible": a campaign to raise awareness of children in care
For this Universal Children's Rights Day, we are launching the campaign "Gafas para Ver lo Invisible" (Glasses to See the Invisible)with the collaboration of Multiopticas Foundation and the production company Aladelta Films.
This campaign revolves around the idea of special glasses, which, when worn, allow us to see the "invisible children": those minors who, living in shelters, are not always on society's radar. Through this metaphor, we want to raise public awareness of the importance of paying attention to these often overlooked realities and promote the full recognition of their rights.
A short film to touch the heart
As part of the campaign, Aladelta Films has produced an endearing short film in which we show how, by wearing the glasses and adopting the look of empathy, people discover the existence of these children who, although protected by the system, need greater social involvement to have the same opportunities as other children their age.
The central message is clear: these children are not invisible, we simply need to look at them with understanding and solidarity.
The importance of getting involved
Through "Glasses to See the Invisible", we want to inspire you to be an agent of change. Protecting the rights of children in foster care is not only a duty, but also an opportunity to build a more just, inclusive and caring society.
We invite you to join this campaign. You already wear the "glasses to see the invisible", share them with others.
